November and December are the most challenging times of the year when it comes to dating, because of the pressure, says Rosalyn Dietz, Dating and Relationship Coach with Compatible Introductions.
Part of the problem is that people have become accustomed to communicating online, so it is harder to connect in real life social situation, Dietz says. You lose the skill to interact with others, she explains.
The most important thing is to be as comfortable in your skin, if you don’t feel good you do not radiate happiness or confidence.
Dietz suggests perfecting the art of conversation at gatherings. This means keeping the conversation flowing while focusing on the other person. Don’t talk about exes or personal problems, she says, but ask them about their interests.
Make the person feel comfortable and give them compliments, Dietz adds.
Don’t try to pretend you aren’t nervous, just admit it.
Be realistic in your goals. Don’t expect instant chemistry, Dietz says. Chemistry develops over time.
Above all give people second chances. Everyone gets nervous sometimes and you might miss out on someone really special if you don’t give him or her the opportunity to get comfortable with you.

Dietz says that "similarity creates comfort," though she concedes that the old adage about opposites attracting may hold true when it comes to personality. Dietz, who holds a degree in psychology, assesses her clients based on 30 different areas of compatibility, including lifestyle and interests. She and her husband interview potential clients, determine if Compatible Introductions can help and then ask the client to complete an extensive profile, including a photo. They say they can offer a first possible match within 10 days.
